NEIGHBORHOOD Aloha Swordfish Shirt

This camp-collar shirt from NEIGHBORHOOD, a Japanese streetwear brand, takes cues from the Hawaiian Islands. Originally white, we overdyed this shirt with cochineal to obtain a color reminiscent of orchids from the islands. The fabric is 100% rayon that has excellent drape and airiness.

Rayon is known to shrink, and we expected as much during the garment dye process. The shirt fits like a small despite its label that reads medium. Listed below are major measurements.

- mordanted with oak gall tannin extract and aluminum acetate

- hand wash in cool water with a pH neutral detergent / hang to dry / do not bleach

- unevenness in dye uptake and gradations of hues are beautiful, distinctive, and intrinsic to the natural dye process.

- naturally dyed clothing may transfer color before the first wash or two; until then, avoid contact with light colored objects and surfaces
