Banana Republic Luxury Blend Sweater

Originally a medium oatmeal hue, this classic, quarter-buttoned sweater is knit from a blend of cotton, angora, and cashmere yarns. We overdyed it with cutch + iron to create a chocolatey charcoal color that remains heathered due to the various fibers in the yarns.

The original buttons disintegrated during the dye process, so we grabbed some natural shell buttons from the garment district and stitched them on by hand.

- self: 71% cotton / 15% angora / 14% cashmere

- shell buttons (replacing original, synthetic buttons)

- dyed with cutch (acacia catechu)

- ferrous acetate afterbath

- mordanted with oak gall tannin extract and aluminum acetate (via alum and sodium acetate)

- machine wash cold with like colors on a gentle cycle / lay flat to dry / iron low as needed / do not bleach

- unevenness in dye uptake and gradations of hues are beautiful, distinctive, and intrinsic to the natural dye process

- naturally dyed clothing may transfer color before the first wash or two; until then, avoid contact with light colored objects and surfaces
